I attract the crazies

Sorry for the late post, I was out running around all day.  Uptown and downtown and uptown and downtown and Brooklyn and the nail salon and Whole Foods and Starbucks and it’s a tough life, okay?
And yes.  I did go to Starbucks again.  I’m actually quite glad I did because while I was there a [...]

Getting it right

Man, this was good:

I have no idea what to call it, so we’re going to go with shrimp and rice salad.  Chris wanted me to name it “Shrimp Surprise.”  He’s quite creative.
Anyway, the recipe.  I made it up as I went along but I think I have the proportions about right:
3/4 cup brown rice
1 or [...]

Improvements

Tonight for dinner I made a take on this goat cheese zucchini pasta by adding shrimp:

Much better with shrimp, I have to say.  I’m not sure what isn’t better with shrimp actually.  The last time I made it, it was a little too much with all the cheese, but the shrimp balanced it out a [...]

I can’t believe tomorrow is Monday.  Blah.
So I woke up with a massive hangover from last night…too many vodka sodas, birthday shots…yikes.  This always leads to fourth meal, but Chris said that during the cab ride home, I announced that I was going “straight to bed.”  Normally I just say I’m not going to have [...]

This was good.

So you marinate about eight ounces of shrimp like so.  I used my food processor to make the marinade because I’m fancy like that and also I like making more dishes for Chris to wash.
Then, in a large bowl, mix together:
2 cans of black beans, rinsed
1 can of corn, drained
1 bell pepper
3 scallions
1/2 [...]

Tonight’s dinner was accompanied by the sound of our landlord busting a hole through the wall behind our toilet.  A hole that will probably be there for, oh, at least five to seven weeks.  Possibly longer.
Luckily, Jack has already eaten most of the plaster off the floor and now more than likely has asbestos poisoning.  [...]

One of the best Seinfeld episodes ever.
I was all out of new shrimp recipes, set to eat it in pasta, stir fry and risotto for the rest of my life, but then I thought of this mango avocado salsa mixture:

The recipe:
1 avocado
1 mango
1 1/2 limes
1/2 T honey
1/2 jalapeño
1 scallion
A TON of cilantro
salt
Just cut it up, [...]

I’m in trouble

Oh man. I made these cookies tonight, and there is no turning back. Thank god I had the foresight to cut the recipe down. I essentially made a fourth of it, and ended up with three small cookies and three teeny tiny cookies. I also only used half maple syrup and [...]

A different direction

During Monday’s mad rush around Trader Joe’s, I accidentally bought the shrimp that you have to peel yourself.  I am not a big fan of touching raw meat, mostly because it’s disgusting, so I was pretty unhappy about this.  Luckily, it only took me about 30 seconds to peel these suckers, and I only threw [...]

The.Best.Dinner.Ever

Man I wish I could take credit for it!  I used this recipe to make coconut curried shrimp, and for perhaps the first time in my life, I did not change a thing.  I always improvise at least a little, but I had all the ingredients and I’m not very familiar with Thai food, so [...]
