Tonight the UPS man came and he had a big box for me and it was a Cuisinart from my brother and sister-in-law for my birthday:
I am going to be 25 next week and it is high time I started processing things. I am so excited; I’ve been reading my manual all night. I’m going to make shredded vegetables and french fries (!!!) and falafel and hummus and soup and nut butter.
Not all on my first night, though. The nut butter was most appealing to me, and we have a HUGE bag of almonds because every time my mom comes to visit, she brings a baggie full of them and then leaves it here. I don’t really like almonds, and at this point, they are basically taking over an entire cabinet. We have about three cabinets, so this is a problem.
I threw a bunch of them into this guy and let it whirl:
And it turned into this:
Does that look like almond butter or does that look like almond butter? I couldn’t really taste it because it was pretty hot (is it supposed to get hot? I hope it’s supposed to get hot. Mom?) but I’m definitely having some tomorrow.
In fact, I may be eating all of my food in processed form from now on. I already told Chris I was going to make him carrot juice. He didn’t like that.
I can hardly remember what we had for dinner after all the excitement, but it was fish tacos:
There was a lot of extra guacamole because I had a little cumin incident and had to add another avocado to even things out a little, so after this I had some strips of yellow pepper and some more guac. I’m going to post the recipe for the tacos under that page because it was really easy.
And the last ice cream sandwich:

Sweet present!! Enjoy making all your delicious processed food.
A Cuisinart! I’m jealous!
And I’m glad to know that someone else is living a virtually cabinet-free lifestyle.
That’s so exciting!!! I need to get myself one of those.
Enjoy your big batches of hummus!
Oo! That’s so exciting! I want one
oh my god. i just bought a mini cuisinart and i’m literally obsessed. i’ve made a shrine and everything.
yeah-it’s supposed to be hot, cause with nut butters you have to process it for sooo long that the machine heats it up.
a suggestion for future nut-butters:
try toasting the nuts for a couple of minutes, that way the oils are easily released. after that just put them in the food processor and let it rip…after like 15 minutes you’ll begin to have a paste and then you have to let it go for some 5 more minutes..
oh, and try adding about 1 or 2 tablespoons of a neutral oil…that way it wont dry out in the fridge…
good luck!!
That is a GREAT gift!
You are going to love your cuisinart! Have fun!
Maybe for your next birthday you will get a juicer and start an all liquid diet!!!!
How fun! You’ve just inspired me to try making some almond butter now!
What a great brother & sister-in-law! Inspires me to get my old Cuisinart out - now I’m thinking I don’t use it nearly enough.
You don’t like almonds?? You know the old saying, when your mom gives you almonds, make almond butter! or was that lemons? lemon butter?
Oh happy day! Cuisinart! I remember the day I got my stick blender. There may have been tears.
wow - great present & yummy looking almond butter… i’m going to be 25 soon too & i want to process things as well
My favorite thing to make in my Cuisinart is Giada De Laurentiis’s CHECCA SAUCE.
Google it because I’m too lazy to get a link.
It’s a raw tomato sauce that just bursts with tomato basily freshness. Pour that stuff over some whole wheat angel hair and you will know what love tastes like.
I promise.
What a nice, generous, thoughtful brother who reads your blog everyday and remembered your comment that you wished you had a food processor. Sounds like that gallant brother should make the blog more often.
Love cuisinart!
Its so fun to experiment with! (or make frozen margaritas!
)
That IS exciting! I hope I get something that awesome for my birthday. haha
Oooh, a Cuisinart food processor?? Excellent!! And yes, that DOES look like almond-butter, haha - can’t wait to read how it tastes (which I’m sure will be fantastic, since homemade nut-butters always taste better than store-bought).
Extra guacamole is almost a must - well, at least for guacamole fanatics like me ;0)
holy moly those fish tacos look AMAZING! everything is better with guacamole in my opinion
(Im ALL KINDS OF JEALOUS of your new package as well!)
Im a little confused as to the PB2.
NO SUGAR at all in the ingredients.
none.
and they say NO SUGAR added!!
and then I heard rumors there might soon be a sugarfree version.
??
Im on it
M.
I’m going to be 25 soon as well, and I’m not yet processing things… hmm… you may have started a trend. Maybe I should mention wanting one on my blog and see if my mom picks up some hints…
Processing things?!? Oh what fun!! Enjoy your present, and that almond butter looks pretty awesome..
French fries for breakfast please!
Eating -
Thanks! I’m so excited.
Jenny -
Oh yeah, cabinet free. And the ones that we do have are so full I can’t ever find anything, so what’s the use?
Romina -
I will!
Magpie -
I know, I’ve been thinking of things I want to grate all day.
Betsy -
I’m working on my shrine to this guy right now. And I’m glad mine didn’t overheat on its first day.
Suze -
Toasting is brilliant. I should have thought of that. Definitely trying it next time.
Ashley -
I know. They are smart people.
Karen -
I already do.
Larissa -
It makes salsa!
Kristie -
Do it. It’s especially fun to make while your boyfriend is trying to watch basketball because it’s loud and it has to run for like 10 minutes and they just love that stuff.
Mom -
Yeah, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this. Next time can you bring peanuts?
Winning -
Oh there were tears all right.
Lindz -
I think at the 1/4 point, we deserve to process things.
Crissy -
Tomato basily freshness? I will make this next week.
Anonymous -
You’re so anonymous.
Allyson -
Margaritas? Really? Do you have a recipe? Except I’m an on the rocks kind of girl but maybe I can adjust…
Cara -
I’m sure you will. Start dropping hints on the blog now.
VG -
It tastes good. I mean, like I said, I don’t really like almonds, but I had to process something and they fit the bill. They were good in my smoothie.
Alexa -
Everything. It’s true.
Mizfit -
I’m pretty sure about the sugar, but let me know what you find out.
Chandra -
You should. Or anything else you want. I think it works.
Linds -
It is so fun. I can’t even tell you.
Chris -
Done.
