Batteries are dumb
May 6, 2008 by arielle
I saw a woman on the train this morning with Guinness Book of World Record fingernails. Like eight inches long, bright purple and pink striped, curled under ones.
I took out my Blackberry to snap a picture for you, because I’m nice and I just knew that you would want to see these babies, but then I chickened out. I’m sorry. I bet she scratches pretty hard.
And now that I’ve got your appetite all revved up, I need to tell you that my stupid camera’s batteries already died. When I got it I called Chris and I was like, guess what, it uses regular double A batteries, isn’t that cool??? And he said it wasn’t because they would probably die all the time. I’ve only had it a week and those suckers are done. I hate it when he is right.
So I ate a bunch of grapes after dinner last night and also one of those little soy ice cream sandwiches, but the pictures are stuck on my dead camera, sorry. I do have this coffee that I had this morning, from the Flavia machine because I was running late:
Alright. I’m going to the Jay-Z concert tonight. I’m not sure if I should be, though. I just had to Google his name so I didn’t spell it wrong. I can never remember if the “J” is spelled out. Chris is crying right now.

Well, I WAS munching on a carrot stick, but now I think I’ll finish it later, after I get the image of long, nasty fingernails out of my head (ick!)
Ahh, sorry about the camera batteries :0(
Haha!! You’re too funny, and always make me smile when I read your witty posts :0) Enjoy the concert - he has some pretty good beats!
One time my friend Suzi and I found ourselves at a Public Enemy concert.
We were the only two white people there and we were wearing pearls and khakis. I’m not even kidding you. We just thought Weee! Public Enemy! We didn’t know what we were walking into because we were stupid.
A very nice lady came up to us and said “y’all are crazy. you betta get up on outta here befo’ something bad happens.”
And so we left.
Have fun at the concert tonight. Just don’t wear pearls. Whatever you do.
I wanted to use regular batteries for my camera too, but P made me get rechargeable batteries so I didn’t spend a grillion dollars every week on AAs. Details, details. I would never think to do something such as this. This probably why I’m not “fiscally responsible” or “have any savings” and “spend money like a drunken sailor”.
Tears of disappointment Ari.
Tears of disappointment.
My mom was going through airport security with the real Guiness Book fingernail lady. She has an assistant to do pretty much everything for her. I can’t imagine being able to do much on your own with those babies.
Which AA batteries are you using? I find the Uniross Hybrio AA rechargeable batteries are very good in my camera.
Enjoy the concert. I went to see him last year….GREAT!!
Dane LOVES Jay-Z in only the way a small white boy from the suburbs can.
I am trying to get the city into him, but it JUST WON’T TAKE.
I’m from Parkersburg, if you know where that is. I don’t think I’ve ever been to where you’re from either.
You were just using regular batteries then? Seriously, try rechargeables. They aren’t really expensive at all and they last AGES. SO worth it.
Jay-Z? Hahah that sounds kind of neat, have fun!
HOVA! HOVA! HOVA!
those fingernails sound pretty nasty. haha. Sorry about the camera battery. Maybe it can also take lithium batteries? Or I guess rechargeable sounds like the best bet. Boo though.
my ultimate goal in life is to be in the guiness book for crazy curly fingernails. i have high aspirations.
VeggieGirl -
Sorry to ruin your carrot stick
Kristen -
I did not wear pearls. I did wear a cardigan, however.
Winning -
Okay, so explain this to me. Because then I have to buy a charger, too, right? Is it expensive?
Chris -
I knew it.
Hannah -
Yeah, I bet she does. It’s kind of dumb. I mean, cut your nails and you can do things for yourself.
Andrew -
You know, I think I was using those. But I threw them away so we’ll never know. You’re not supposed to throw batteries away are you? I just thought of that.
Kiala -
Chris too.
Amber -
I do know where Parkersburg is but I’ve never been there I don’t think.
Lighter -
But do I have to buy a charger?
Alexa -
Yes.
Cara -
I didn’t realize that I know so little about batteries compared with the rest of the population. Lithium? Never heard of them. Are they better than regular?
Betsy -
They might get in the way when you run. Just something to consider.
You chickened out!!>!?!?!? Ahh! I would have loved to see that!
Did you wonder how she showers, hold babies, opens packages? Hmm..
Whenever I have bought rechargeable batteries I buy them in a pack with a charger. I think it has been around $20 for the whole thing which usually includes charger and 4 batteries, and the batteries recharge TONS of times. I have yet to need to replace any of my rechargeable batteries.
Kristie -
Thank you! I will do that. For some reason I envisioned the charger to be super expensive.
