Vodka
April 16, 2008 by arielle
That’s how I would sum up last night. Vodka. The party I went to was sponsored by Skyy, and there was lots and lots and lots of vodka there. Good thing, too, because I had to mingle with strangers, and I need lots and lots and lots of vodka for that. I don’t really like talking to people I don’t know.
This one guy asked me what my favorite band is, and I totally panicked because we all know I don’t have a favorite band because I don’t really understand music, at all, and I couldn’t think of a single band except for Third Eye Blind, which was my favorite band in high school, mostly because all of my friends liked them and Stephan Jenkins is pretty cute. But I couldn’t say Third Eye Blind, because to people who know about music, I guess they aren’t very good. Or at least that’s what Chris tells me.
But aside from the mingling, it was a fun night. The bar was actually this really cool, semi-new place called 1 Oak that I’ll unfortunately never be able to afford to go to again. The two coolest things about it? The DJ looked exactly like Rainn Wilson, and I do mean exactly, and the mint/gum/lotion table in the bathroom had Snickers bars. I have never seen this before. Altoids, sure, but Snickers? Who is the genius that came up with this idea?
No, I didn’t eat one. Mostly because I refuse to tip those bathroom people because I am a grown up and can get my own paper towels, thank you, and if I’d taken a Snickers, it would have definitely required a tip.
As for the food I did eat:
Yesterday afternoon I was having one of those moments when I just really wanted some chocolate (like I don’t eat enough of it, I know) and I knew that I could try and try to eat broccoli or carrots until I turned into a vegetable and I would still end up eating the chocolate in the long run so I just went for it and had some chips:
They are on a magazine article I was using for work. My food styling skills are off the charts, I know.
Then before I ran out the door I grabbed a Z Bar because I wasn’t sure when we would eat dinner and chocolate chips are not the most filling snack in the world:
Look at that pup in the background! He thinks he might like Z Bars.
And then for dinner we went to a sandwich place by my friend’s office and I was still kind of full from the bar so I just got half of a portobello mushroom and tomato sandwich. It was pretty good. No cheese. I like cheese.
Right now, I am recovering with some coffee:

Sounds like a fun night overall. I also dont like talking to people I dont know. I get all anxiety over it.
Also when I think of snickers in the bathroom i get kind of weirded out, even if they are packaged. And you have to understand, I love snickers with a passion. haha.
Yummy - vodak and chocoalte chip z bars! Two of my favorites!!
Alcohol always makes talking to strangers that much easier!
I always get so weirded out by bathroom attendants. It’s just so awkward to have someone handing you your paper towel like you can’t do it yourself, and then you feel really bad that you’re out having fun and they’re just there sitting in the bathroom all night. With snickers they probably aren’t allowed to eat.
So what did you end up saying your favorite band was? I’m dying to hear how you got out of that one.
When a party is sponsored by Skyy, there’s BOUND to be tons of vodka, haha. Glad that you had a fun night!
I listened to Third Eye Blind when I was 8 years old (boy, does THAT bring back memories, haha!) - I liked them! :0)
Enjoy your “recovery coffee,” and your Wednesday :0)
I haven’t tried these Z Bars, but they seem good!
Snickers in a bathroom? That’s absolutely genius. They need that here in Florida. I refuse to tip those people as well–but for a snickers bar? Hmmm, that might be debatable.
I am sooooo with you on the bathroom attendants. I feel bad for not tipping, but I am quite capable of getting my own paper towels!!! They’re everywhere now too - it used to just be swanky bars but it seems like everyplace has got them.
I bet your pup WOULD like Z bars… they are sooooo good! Too bad dogs can’t eat chocolate.
Jack is a fan of many things, but even he doesn’t like Third Eye Blind.
The only bathroom attendant I’ve ever had is someone next door passing me some TP underneath the stall. This 1 Oak place must be pretty damn ritzy.
And snickers? WOA. That takes things to a whole new level.
I’m with you - I hate the favorite band question.
Cara -
You know what weirds me out? The lotion and stuff. People using the same personal hygiene products as TOTAL STRANGERS. I mean, I’ve seen deodorant before. It’s gross.
Chandra -
I think we would have a good time together. Also, the chocolate chip ones are amazing. That was my first one.
Romina -
Don’t I know it. Until a certain point…it’s a fine line.
Anne -
I know, I always feel bad for them too. Just not bad enough to take their towel and tip me. It is really mean for them to be taunted by snickers all night.
Robin -
I told him that I was the wrong girl for that conversation and passed him off on my friend. She likes music.
VeggieGirl -
EIGHT YEARS OLD? Oh lord, you’re making me feel old. And I’m not old. I think you must have just been ahead of your time
Lauren -
I would tip for a Snickers for sure. I didn’t want to get into it, but they also had Hershey’s cookies and cream bars, and Twix.
Rebecca -
I know, I feel bad too. It’s a crappy job for sure. Right up there with shoe shining. Not that I get my shoes shined (how weird is that by the way??) but I always think people who do are assholes.
CCV -
Too bad, I know. Ironically, Jack seems to love the smell of chocolate. Probably because it’s so familiar to him, living in my house and whatnot.
Chris -
Then why is he humming “how’s it gonna be” right now?
Run -
Really? Honestly, I don’t see a ton either because bathroom attendants = big bar tab that I can’t afford but they are in a lot of places here.
