Lunch Out
January 11, 2008 by arielle
Well, kind of out. Not in a restaurant, but because I’m at home so much during the week, I consider any meal not eaten on my couch “out.” I picked up a great lunch at a natural foods store I found around the corner and brought it back to work. I was planning to get a salad from one of those places that lets you create your own (it seems like there’s one on every corner here) but I always add too much and end up spending $10 on a salad, which is ridiculous. So I saved some money and got some awesome lentil soup:
This place had the nutrition facts of all of their soups posted, which I’ve never seen before with hot soup bars. It’s a great idea - lentil is usually a safe bet (really anything that isn’t cream based is) but I didn’t want to eat a ton of sodium in one sitting and this one only has about 350mg in a cup. This is a 16oz container, and I ate most of it, so I probably had about 1 and 3/4 cups. That’s about 400 calories, according to the posted info. A little higher than canned soup, but it tasted better, too!
I also bought the BEST prepared tabbouli I’ve ever had, but I was too full to eat much of it. It is amazing - if you ever see this brand, buy it. I wish I would’ve bought the bigger container (might have to go back…it’s that good).
The picture isn’t that clear, sorry, but the brand is Yorgo’s All Natural Taboule Salad. It has 25 calories per two tablespoons (I probably had about four or five tablespoons so far. It’s only 175 calories for the whole container.) and the ingredients are: Fresh Parsley, Fresh Tomato, Wheat Germ, Fresh Onion, Lemon Juice, Blend of Canola and Olive Oils, Sea Salt and Spices.
Must be the “spices” that make it so good, because that’s pretty standard for a tabbouli recipe. Wish they’d list what they were, I’ve made it at home before but I don’t even think it was this good.
Might have to have the rest in a little while as a snack. If (okay, let’s be honest, when) I do, my lunch calories will equal about 575 calories.
Never went to Starbucks…I think I might pass today, actually, but we’ll see.
